6.4 Apply professional learning and improve student learning

Demonstrate an understanding of the rationale for continued professional learning and the implications for improved student learning.

To teach effectively we need to have a huge repertoire of strategies to call on, all students learn in different ways. In addition to that there are always new theories and understandings about childhood development and neuroscience that better enables us to understand ways that people learn.

We ask students to be responsible for their own learning and to have a growth mindset, to not so this ourselves would be hypocritical.

In addition to that, teaching across a broad range of areas as we do in a primary classroom it is essential that we brush up on knowledge and be learning right alongside our students.
