Teaching academic concepts through dance | Adrienne Clancy

Fundamental to my pedagogical understanding is the idea of teaching through the arts. Dance has the transcendental quality of being art and physical movement whilst letting everyone experience the very essence of humanity. The above resource includes (at the 9min mark) a dance based on the tilt in the earths axis. This embodied approach to science and geography is a powerful tool to deepen students understandings. Movement with meaning, once a child has made 23.5 degrees with their bodies and rotated around on the tilted axis they are unlikely to ever forget why earth has seasons.
