Demonstrate knowledge of teaching strategies that are responsive to the learning strengths and needs of students from diverse linguistic, cultural, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Differentiation is a key feature in any effective classroom; every class has students working at different levels. Across my placements, I have worked in a variety of schools that included students of diverse socio-economic, religious, cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
During placement in grade 5/6 in a school with a very diverse cohort, that incuded ESL students, trauma affected students and neurodiverse students, I developed a small group lesson plan for explict reading instruction of a non-fiction book. Working in small groups like this is an effective way to differntate within a classroom of learners that ranged in skill from level 4 to level 8.
