Demonstrate broad knowledge and understanding of the impact of culture, cultural identity and linguistic background on the education of students from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds.
Respect and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture is central to my inclusive teacher identity and throughout my PST journey I have had the opportunity to discuss this with my mentors and peers. I have developed a number of units that embed this respect. On my second placement I had the opportunity to teach one of these units based on a Wathuroung dreaming story using 8 ways pedagogical approach; oral storytelling and had students express their own understandings through drawing. With a culture that is at least 70 000 years old, there is always more to learn.
