2.2 Content selection and organisation

Organise content into an effective learning and teaching sequence.

Organising content into a cohesive sequence, in which lessons build upon each other as students' knowledge increases is essential for the students to achieve learning goals.

During my final placement, I was able to demonstrate this through a cohesive lesson plan for the numeracy learning area of chance and probability. The topic was introduced with the introduction of a new chance-based warm-up game Release the Prisoner students were then introduced to chance and probability vocabulary before a hands-on, outdoor basketball chance activity, followed by class reflection on the experience.

A similar structure was followed for the week's lessons and included a range of ways for students to demonstrate their growing understanding. All lessons were presented in a similar format that began with the Learning intention and success criteria, followed by a mini-lesson and main task, and reflection using a video game analogy to engage the students.
