2.3 Curriculum, assessment and reporting

Use curriculum, assessment and reporting knowledge to design learning sequences and lesson plans.

During my final placement, I had the opportunity to plan a numeracy lesson sequence on Fractions. I first had the class do a pre-test on this via Essential Assessment, this provided a snapshot of student's understandings and misunderstandings. 

From this data, I was able to identify that overall the class had misunderstandings around improper fractions and mixed numbers. Linking this to the Victorian Curriculum allowed me to recognise that whilst this was a level 3 class they were mostly working towards level 4 achievement standards and I was able to plan according to this level. 

Providing a range of representations and hands of practice post-test data revealed that all students made growth in this area.
