Setting goals is essential to the measurement of success of students, there is always room to grow but it helps to know where you are growing too!

Working with the Australian and Victorian Curriculums is a proven method for establishing learning goals and should always be referred to when setting goals to clearly establish that goals are aligned to these powerful criteria. 

Of course, it is essential to know where students are at before it is possible to know what goals are effective. Having students complete a 'cold write' is a great way to get a snapshot of students writing ability and can then inform goal setting once assessed using a table like the following.
