Teaching is communication! Throughout my placements I have gained confidence in myself as a communicator. Working one on one, in small groups and with a whole class or more. I have developed a repertoire of attention grabbers, clapping and call and response chants alongside various silent communication techniques such as holding up a hand or sitting at the front of the class and silently starting a game of heads and shoulders.
I have utilised the traditional teacher stratergies of waiting for silence, counting down to silence have learnt to say a lot by a pertinent look to certain students.
Mentors have commented that I have become stronger in this communication over the course of my placements.
