3.7 Engage parents / carers in the educative process

Describe a broad range of strategies for involving parents/carers in the educative process.

During my final placement I had the opportunity to be a part of teacher / parent conferences, or as they are informally know in the school as parent catch ups. These are undertaken 1-2 per term and take the place of the more formal parent / teacher interviews. 

This process of keeping in touch with parents about their students progress helps to engage parents in the educative process so as all parties are on the same page and working towards the same goals. Journal extract below:

On a personal level I choose to introduce myself to parents via a send home letter, particularly post Covid parents are not as present at schools so this kind of initiative allows them to know what is happening in the classroom. Of course this is also done through newsletters and online platforms such as Compass and SeeSaw.
